When people ask us what sets Camp Crossroads apart from any of the other great camps in Ontario, we can honestly answer that it’s the people who come to serve. Whether it’s a Summer Staff, a Leader in Training (LIT), or a one week Volunteer, we are grateful that so many give their heart and soul to serve Christ by providing a quality experience for the campers.

Lori Barrett came to volunteer in the dining hall during Junior Week last month and brought two children with her as campers. A volunteer like Lori has a unique perspective on our summer ministry since she is invested both as a parent and as a fellow team-member with the rest of the staff. Here’s what she had to say about her time at Camp:

My kids can't stop talking about their week and are determined to become LIT when they grow up!

I had the best week at Camp Crossroads for Junior Week!

I had a great time volunteering in the dining hall all week but LOVED LOVED LOVED seeing my kids soak up all the amazing-ness of sleep-away summer camp! Bunk beds in cabins, swimming in the lake, canoeing, cookouts, campfire songs, games, ropes, chapel and more!

But the best part of it all was watching the many teenagers as cabin leaders and program staff.  The heart that they have for the kids and Jesus is so fantastic.  Watching them mission to my kids was so heart-warming! This week was so encouraging to me!! These young people are stepping outside themselves and being a role model to many kids so that they can share the love of Christ with them.  Some of these campers may hear it at home and church, but to hear it from “teenagers” is priceless.  These kids really look up to the summer staff and the impact they are making on these kids is more than they realize.  And some kids are hearing about Jesus for the first time!   AMAZING!!

My kids can’t stop talking about their week and are determined to become LIT when they grow up! When I asked what their favourite part of the week was… “every second I was there was my favourite!”

These words encourage us to celebrate the good things that God is doing in the lives of staff and campers here at Camp. He is bringing parents and campers together with teenagers and young adults and forming a community of faith that is growing closer to Christ. Praise God for all that He is doing through His Body here at Crossroads!
